Fights Break Out Ahead of Turning Point USA Event on UC Berkeley Campus
Turning Point USA's Berkeley event honoring Charlie Kirk sees a doubling in attendance and heightened security amid protests from activist groups, organizers said.
- On Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, Turning Point USA held a tour stop inside Zellerbach Hall at UC Berkeley to mark two months since Charlie Kirk's killing and honor his mission of free speech.
- Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking on his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University, and his remarks about Jews, Islam, and LGBTQ people drew critics as Berkeley Turning Point USA chapter grew after his death.
- Clashes on Bancroft Way broke out before the event, detaining a t-shirt vendor and protesters, while four students were arrested earlier for felony vandalism.
- John Paul Leon said the event was moved indoors for safety, with Rob Schneider and Frank Turek speaking in place of Kirk, while many attendees, including some who drove up to five hours, came from other schools or as non-students.
- Given Berkeley's history of violent protests, UC President James B. Milliken urged UC chancellors to review events policies after costly security bills of $600,000 and $800,000.
