India Accelerates With New Vande Bharat Express Trains
Prime Minister Modi launches four new semi-high-speed trains cutting travel times by up to 2 hours 40 minutes, connecting major commercial and cultural hubs, officials said.
- On Saturday, November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off four new Vande Bharat Express trains, raising the total number of services in India to 164.
- Developed by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, these semi-high-speed trains are built to expand India's modern rail network and cut journey times between commercial and IT centres in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, and cultural and religious centres like Khajuraho and Varanasi.
- The Ernakulam–Bengaluru service will complete the journey in 8 hours and 40 minutes, cutting over two hours from current travel time, while the Lucknow–Saharanpur will take around 7 hours and 45 minutes, reducing travel by almost an hour.
- Passengers from Uttar Pradesh will gain faster travel options, while the services will improve links between Delhi and Punjab routes .
- Operational timetables show that the Banaras–Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express covers ~443 km, cutting travel by almost 2 hours and 40 minutes, while the Firozpur Cantt–Delhi service runs six days a week.
