Police stop and search powers to be widened under Tory pledge

Summary
Police will be given powers to stop and search anyone in 2,000 “hotspot” crime areas under plans to be announced on Tuesday by the Conservatives. Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, will propose that police should be allowed to drop the current requirement that they should have grounds for suspicion so that they can stop and search any person.
