Pakistan says it carried out ground operation, strikes along Afghan border, killing 29 militants
Officials said the operation followed recent militant attacks and destroyed weapons and ammunition at targeted hideouts, while 29 fighters were killed.
On June 28, 2026, Pakistani security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Bajaur District and precision strikes along the border, killing 29 militants, according to Information Minister Ataullah Tarar.
This offensive followed an attack on a Pakistan Rangers headquarters in Karachi's Gulistan-i-Jauhar area on Saturday, where militants killed three security personnel; Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the assault.
Security forces arrested one attacker, identified as an Afghan national, who revealed that he and his companions trained in Afghanistan before launching the raid, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations .
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid alleged the strikes caused 13 civilian casualties, including 11 children, one woman, and an elderly man, contrasting with Pakistan's report of 29 militants killed.
Part of an escalating cycle of cross-border violence since February, the campaign operates under the 'Azm-i-Istehkam' vision to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism, despite ongoing mediation efforts by China.
