UKRAINE, JUL 20 – Russia insists on maximalist demands including Ukrainian troop withdrawal and recognition of annexations as talks focus mainly on prisoner exchanges, Kremlin spokesperson said.
- On Sunday, July 20, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia appears unwilling to shift from its maximalist demands ahead of a proposed third round of peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey.
- During the June 2 negotiations in Istanbul, the peace memorandum demanded recognition of Crimea and four regions, as Moscow also insisted on dismantling Western-supplied weapons.
- On Friday, May 23, each side released 1,000 captives, but the talks yielded no progress toward a ceasefire.
- U.S. President Donald Trump threatened 100% tariffs if a deal is not reached within 50 days, Reuters reported, and Moscow appears unwilling to shift from its maximalist demands, Peskov said.
