Mario Kart Tour to Drive Off Into the Sunset
Nintendo will end Mario Kart Tour service and stop in-app purchases, while Gold Pass subscribers get August and September content for free.
Nintendo announced that Mario Kart Tour will permanently shut down on September 29, ending a seven-year run as one of the company's final mobile gaming titles.
The game faced a problematic launch due to predatory Gacha gambling mechanics, which persisted for three years before Nintendo implemented improvements in October 2022.
Nintendo halted automatic Gold Pass subscription renewals, though players can still spend existing rubies in the Spotlight Shop and Mii Racing Suit Shop through September.
Earlier this year, some countries rated the game 18+ due to its monetization strategies, despite rare tracks like Piranha Plant Pipeline attracting dedicated players.
A brief statement on Nintendo's website thanked players for their support, with the company humorously noting the game's duration by referencing the Middle Ages.
