Nigeria: Seminarian Dies At the Hands of Kidnappers, Another Freed
Two seminarians were freed after an armed attack on a southern Nigeria seminary; one died in captivity and a security officer was killed, officials said.
- On July 10, 2025, armed bandits abducted three seminarians—Japhet Jesse, Joshua Aleobua, and Emmanuel Alabi—from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi.
- During the assault, armed bandits stormed the Minor Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Ivianokpodi, killing Christopher Aweneghieme, member of the security forces.
- Jesse was freed shortly after the abduction, reportedly after a ransom payment by the family of Jesse, while Aleobua regained freedom on November 4, 2025, the Diocese stated.
- The Diocese of Auchi confirmed Emmanuel Alabi died in the custody of his abductors after months of captivity earlier this year.

Nigeria: Seminarian Dies At the Hands of Kidnappers, Another Freed
Abuja -- One of the three seminarians, aged 15 to 16, who were kidnapped on July 10 in an attack on the Minor Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Ivianokpodi, in the Diocese of Auchi, Edo State (southern Nigeria), has been released. A member of the security forces, Christopher Aweneghieme, was killed in the attack (see Fides, 12/7/2025).
