- On January 6, 2026 the National Medical Commission's Medical Assessment and Rating Board revoked the Letter of Permission for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, Kakryal, Reasi after a surprise inspection found non-compliance.
- Several Hindu groups, including the Yuva Rajput Sabha, held protests seeking reservations and demanded Muslim students be shifted, while the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti said it pressed for the inspection.
- The NMC team documented major infrastructure gaps, noting a 39 per cent deficiency in teaching faculty, a 65 per cent shortage of tutors, and library resources with only 50 per cent of books and two journals against 15 required.
- UT officials were authorised to relocate admitted students for the 2025-26 MBBS session as supernumerary seats in other government medical institutions within the Union Territory under applicable norms.
- The college had received permission on September 8 to admit 50 students, including 44 Muslim students selected on NEET merit alongside seven Hindus and one Sikh.
