4 people dead and 8 wounded in a shooting and fire at a Michigan church, police say
Two people were killed and nine injured after the shooter rammed a truck into the church, opened fire, and set the building ablaze, police said.
- On Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, a 40-year-old man from Burton rammed his vehicle into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McCandlish Road in Grand Blanc Township and opened fire, then set the building aflame.
- After officers engaged the shooter, police said investigators will execute search warrants and review cell phone records as authorities have not released a motive.
- As of 1 p.m. Sunday, police said 10 people were transported to nearby hospitals, one person pronounced dead, and later updates confirmed two dead including the shooter, with nine injured.
- Federal agents are on the scene and the FBI will lead the federal investigation, officials said; off-site reunification is at the Trillium Theater and the public is asked to avoid the area.
- The attack came a day after Russell M. Nelson's death, and investigators found three improvised explosive devices in the suspect's vehicle while warning of possible additional victims.
