The new military service should be based on voluntary action, says Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius. However, if the number of recruits is not sufficient, another clause must apply, says the SPD politician.
In the absence of volunteers, compulsory military service applies - according to the plans of Defense Minister Pistorius, a corresponding regulation is to be enshrined in the planned military service law.
Federal Defence Minister Pistorius wants to establish a return to compulsory military service in the planned military service law as an option.
