Military responds swiftly to devastating Venezuelan earthquakes
The U.S. has deployed several civilian and military assets to Venezuela after two major earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck the country.
The earthquakes caused many buildings to collapse and raised the death toll to over 900.
U.S. Southern Command is managing on-the-ground operations for the U.S. Department of War and the State Department in Venezuela.
SOUTHCOM is increasing airlift, sealift, and logistics support, including redirecting the USS Fort Lauderdale and USS Billings to Venezuelan waters and sending two C-17 Globemasters with search-and-rescue teams, as announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The Brazilian government also provides for the installation of a field hospital, which will have medical personnel, medicines and sanitary supplies. 100 solar water purifiers are among the supplies sent.
