Microsoft signs on for capacity at Pure DC data center in Finland

- Wojtaszek has shifted the company's focus to larger assets in remote locations to diversify beyond centrally located sites. His team worked with local authorities in Finland for two years securing land, energy, and financing for the campus.
- Jaakko Kiiskil, mayor of Sein Municipality, said the project will bring around 3,000 construction jobs to the region. The site is capable of expanding to more than 550 megawatts, representing as much as 7.5 billion in investments.
- Microsoft Corp. is reportedly signed on to lease capacity at the new AI-ready site, though Pure Data Centres declined to name specific clients. The British ambassador to Finland, Laura Davies, called the investment the largest yet by a UK company in Finland.
- Seeking to diversify funding, Pure Data Centres plans to tap the Nordic bond market and eventually seek global sponsors. Owned by Oaktree Capital Management, the firm has more than 1GW of capacity live or under development across Europe.
