Maine churches, schools opening chapters of the late Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization
Turning Point USA has launched over 20 chapters in Maine schools and churches since September, aiming to promote conservative values and spark political discussions.
- On Oct. 21, roughly 200 people packed Calvary Chapel of Greater Portland in Westbrook to hear about Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA’s expansion, with Travis Carey leading prayer and launching a chapter.
 - Kirk's assassination last month has spurred rapid organizing across Maine campuses and churches, growing Turning Point USA from three chapters to at least 20 in under two months.
 - This fall, chapters have cropped up at colleges, high schools and churches across Maine, with Southern Maine Community College establishing a new chapter in September and Club America operating 18 high school chapters.
 - The rapid expansion has triggered protests and safety concerns, including a teacher resignation and arrests tied to threats, while students and faculty opposing chapters speak out.
 - Turning Point's institutional shift into churches and high schools positions it to shape future debates on transgender athletes, abortion and free markets through Turning Point Faith and Club America, launched in 2021 and earlier this year.
