‘Love Island USA’ Removes Contestant Vasana Montgomery Before Premiere Due to ‘Past Slur’
Two resurfaced videos led producers to remove the 25-year-old business owner, continuing a pattern of cast changes tied to racial slur backlash.
Peacock confirmed that contestant Vasana Montgomery has been removed from Love Island USA season 8 just days before the Tuesday, June 2 premiere following resurfaced videos of her using a racial slur.
This dismissal repeats an uncomfortable pattern from last year when Love Island USA removed Season 7 contestants Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega after videos surfaced of them using offensive racial slurs.
Fans demanded Montgomery's removal after two leaked videos circulated, including one where she says, "Knock knock, n*****," while Peacock noted these private videos were inaccessible for vetting before casting.
The production team issued a statement asking viewers to avoid "negativity" and keep the community "kind" and "positive," emphasizing everyone deserves to feel safe and respected within the villa.
Season 8 returns on Tuesday, June 2, with host Ariana Madix, building on the previous season's 18.4 billion minutes of watch time over its six-week run on Peacock.
