- Michael Bracewell will lead the one-day team in Santner's absence, backed by Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Will Young and Henry Nicholls, while Kyle Jamieson features in both squads alongside uncapped Kristian Clarke and emerging players Adi Ashok, Josh Clarkson and Michael Rae.
- Several regulars are unavailable for the ODIs due to family, injury or league commitments as Test captain Tom Latham stays home for his third child, Matt Henry rehabs a calf tear, and Kane Williamson is in SA20.
- The tour timing ties into final selection plans, with the World Cup squad due next month, as the three ODIs and five T20Is in India provide subcontinent exposure, Coach Walter said.
