Lagos govt set to reintroduce monthly sanitation exercise
- Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab revealed in 2025 that Lagos State plans to bring back the monthly environmental sanitation exercise following inspections in Ojo Local Government Area.
- The reintroduction follows growing waste management problems like clogged drainage and indiscriminate dumping, with formal approval pending from the State Executive Council.
- The monthly sanitation, which used to occur from 7 a.m. To 10 a.m. On the last Saturday of each month, was discontinued in November 2016 due to challenges in managing movement within Lagos.
- Commissioner Wahab highlighted the need for residents to consistently maintain proper sanitation habits, while also noting that efforts to enforce regulations against illegal dumping and roadside trading have been strengthened.
- Following approval, the governor is expected to formally declare the resumption of the exercise, which seeks to support a cleaner and flood-resistant Lagos as part of ongoing waste regulation and traffic management initiatives.
