Prosecutor seeks dismissal in French government Covid response probe
France’s prosecutor general has requested the dismissal of a case investigating three former government officials’ handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, including former French prime minister Edouard Philippe who is a contender in the 2027 presidential elections.
Attorney General Rémy Heitz considers that "many initiatives have been taken by the government to combat the pandemic" starting in February 2020.
"Many initiatives have been taken by the government to combat the pandemic," said the Public Prosecutor's Office. "The three former ministers have been placed under the status of assisted witness in the health crisis management investigation.
The prospect of a trial is far removed for these politicians, although it is now up to the CJR's inquiry committee to decide.

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Court of Justice of the Republic requested a dismissal in the investigation into the management of the Covid-19. In the case, Édouard Philippe, Agnès Buzyn and Olivier Véran are placed under the status of assisted witness for, among other things, "in danger of the life of others".
