Vice President JD Vance Talks Faith and Politics in Orange County
Vance said Nixon’s 1972 coalition resembled Trump’s 2024 win and compared Watergate with the Russia investigation.
On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance visited the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, discussing his memoir "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith" and reflecting on his personal religious journey.
Vance's memoir details his transition from an "arrogant atheist phase" to Roman Catholicism, anchored by his grandmother, Bonnie Blanton Vance, who possessed a "very deep religious faith."
Vance praised Richard Nixon as a "political genius," comparing the 1972 coalition to President Donald Trump's 2024 victory while remarking, "If Watergate happened tomorrow it would have been a 12-hour news story."
Outside the library, protesters gathered to criticize the Trump administration's negotiations with the Iranian regime, prompting Vance to tell attendees, "If you want the vice president to hear what you're protesting about, you have to use a language I actually understand."
Defending the administration's mission, Vance stated, "We created incredible diplomatic, economic and military leverage," and insisted the current work remains "not over yet, but so far so good.
