Israel says it has cleared Hezbollah fighters from tunnels under key Lebanon ridge
The military said troops killed some fighters and continue work to neutralize underground infrastructure in a strategic area.
- On Thursday, the IDF announced it completed clearing two Hezbollah underground infrastructures on the Ali al-Taher Ridge in southern Lebanon, with forces from the 36th Division establishing operational control above and below ground.
- Constructed over around 20 years with Iranian planning and funding, the tunnel network enabled Hezbollah to manage fire systems and conduct combat operations against Israeli communities and IDF forces.
- Led by the Commando Brigade and Yahalom unit, forces discovered command rooms, weapons storage, and living quarters. Gen. Yiftach Norkin said these were "assets from which Hezbollah commanded the latest campaign."
- Earlier Thursday, Iran warned the United States it would "respond forcefully" to an Israeli attack on the ridge, though Israeli security officials dispute claims that Iranian personnel are present.
- Work to neutralize remaining underground facilities continues, after which the IDF will redeploy for defensive operations; the military stated it remains committed to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
