Apple Wallet Now Offers Digital ID for Another US State

West Virginia becomes the 13th state to support digital driver’s licenses in Apple Wallet, expanding secure and convenient ID use primarily at airports, according to Apple.

  • On Oct. 23, 2025, West Virginia announced it launched digital driver's licenses in Apple Wallet, supported by IDEMIA Public Security North America and state partners.
  • Earlier this year, state DMVs began implementing individual programs, and as of August 8, 2025, 13 states and territories including West Virginia support driver’s licenses in Apple Wallet.
  • Open the Wallet app to add your ID by tapping +, then scan both sides of your card and take selfies for verification; Apple Wallet encrypts data and limits shared info, Apple says.
  • Starting today, West Virginia residents can present Apple Wallet IDs at select TSA checkpoints, including over 250 airports like Charleston Yeager and Huntington Tri-State, while businesses can use IDEMIA's Mobile ID Verify app.
  • Starting this fall with iOS 26, Apple plans to add passport support and Google Wallet is expected to support mobile IDs soon, but limited acceptance outside airports means digital IDs supplement physical cards.
