IndiGo replaces leased Boeing 777s with fuel-efficient Airbus A321XLRs on routes to Istanbul and Athens, expecting eight more deliveries this year, boosting international connectivity.
- On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, IndiGo, India's largest airline, landed its first Airbus A321XLR in Delhi as a milestone for its long-haul plans, Pieter Elbers said.
- With prior damp‑leased Boeing 787 flights last year, IndiGo's internationalisation strategy and range up to 8,700 km prompted ordering Airbus A321XLRs.
- With a dual-class cabin, the A321XLR features 12 IndiGoStretch seats and 183 economy seats with RECARO seating and CFM International's LEAP engine, plus Bluebox digital in-flight services and a meal and beverage policy.
- As leases lapse at February-end, IndiGo will replace damp-leased Boeing 777s on Delhi–Istanbul and Mumbai–Istanbul routes with A321XLRs due to DGCA's one-time lease extension limit.
- The airline expects eight more A321XLRs this year, deploying them on Istanbul and Bali routes, will launch Athens flights later this month, and holds 60 Airbus A350 wide-bodies arriving from 2027.
