- Supporting India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, the initiative aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2070 while replacing diesel propulsion with hydrogen fuel cells that produce only water vapour.
- Equipped with a 3,200 HP propulsion system, the NaMo Green Rail carries around 2,600 passengers and features multi-layer safety systems including leak detection and automatic shut-off valves.
- Indian Railways inaugurated a hydrogen storage and refuelling facility in Jind, capable of storing nearly 3,000 kg, to support operations and gather data for potential deployment on heritage routes like Kalka-Shimla.
- India joins Germany, Japan, and China in testing hydrogen rail technology; however, officials acknowledged that while Modi touted the project as a 'Make in India' success, key components including fuel cells were imported.
