US Hails India’s $946 Million MH-60R Seahawk Helicopters Sustainment Deal

The $946 million deal includes spares, training, and technical support to sustain 24 MH-60R Seahawks, enhancing India's maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

  • On Dec 03, 2025, India's Ministry of Defence signed a sustainment package in New Delhi worth approximately Rs 7,995 crore to support 24 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters produced by Lockheed Martin.
  • India purchased the MH-60R Seahawk helicopters under the US Foreign Military Sales programme, aiming to improve long-term readiness, interoperability with US forces, and maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
  • The sustainment package provides spares, support equipment, product support, training, technical support, and repair over a five-year follow-on support period under Letters of Offer and Acceptance signed by Defence ministry .
  • The sustainment is expected to increase helicopter availability and reduce maintenance time, enabling Indian Navy operations from coastal facilities and naval ships while establishing local maintenance infrastructure to cut reliance on foreign service providers.
  • The MH-60R Seahawk features advanced sensors including the AN/AQS-22 ALFS dipping sonar, multi-mode radar, sonobuoys, and can carry the Mk-54 lightweight torpedo; INAS 334 was commissioned at INS Garuda in Kochi.
