Imo: Police Arrest Suspected Killers of 21 Year Old Nursing Student, Wendy Achumba
Police say the suspects confessed to repeated rape and murder, and investigators have moved the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
- Imo Police arrested two suspects, Onyema Okonkwo and Emmanuel Onyekachi, linked to the rape and murder of Wendy Achumba, a 21-year-old nursing student whose body was found in her Umulogho Community hostel.
- The victim's body was discovered Thursday evening in her off-campus residence in Umulogho Community. Suspects later confessed to storming the hostel at about 7 p.m. to commit the crimes.
- Community youths apprehended the pair at separate locations in Umulogho Community on Saturday and handed them to police. Okonkwo admitted they raped and killed Achumba, using a machete and stick to conceal the crime.
- Authorities transferred the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. Imo State Police Commissioner Audu Garba Bosso assured the public that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
- Achumba, who hailed from Abia State, had completed her midwifery program and was undergoing post-basic training at Mercy College of Nursing Science when the incident occurred.
