How Strangers Came Together to Help Rescue an Injured NW Hiker

WHATCOM COUNTY, WASHINGTON, JUL 29 – About 20 hikers improvised a stretcher to help a doctor with a suspected broken fibula descend 2,000 vertical feet after her injury, completing the rescue in four to five hours.

Summary by The Oregonian
On July 4, Jenny Hartsock set off on a typical day-off solo hiking adventure with her two dogs, Juniper and Sky, on the Blanca Lake Trail. The experienced hiker and Bellingham doctor expected it to be a standard morning trek: she would make her way up the steep trail, enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake and then head back down.
