‘He’s a liar’: Bikie says sniper made up story that he was paid to shoot Nick Martin

David James Pye allegedly paid a former soldier $100,000 to kill senior Rebels bikie Nick Martin in a sniper attack at a drag racing event, prosecutor said.

  • During a drag racing event at Perth Motorplex, a sniper-style attack fatally struck Nick Martin, senior Rebels bikie, on December 12, 2020, just after 8.30pm.
  • David James Pye believed he had been targeted and told others Nick Martin put a contract on him, prosecutors allege, after meeting the ex-soldier on social media and giving $10,000 to plan the attack.
  • Using a.308 calibre rifle, the shooter fired from more than 300m away and had served in Iraq and volunteered with Shadows Of Hope, court evidence shows.
  • David James Pye, 43, has pleaded not guilty to six charges in the WA Supreme Court trial, while David Hallowes SC called the shooter `a liar` as he prepares to give evidence on Thursday.
  • Prosecutors allege the murder was planned in person and via the encrypted app Wire, with Pye, a Comancheros outlaw motorcycle group member, paying $100,000 and injuring Ricky Chapman and a five-year-old boy.
