Heartbreaking details emerge after five friends killed in crash
Five young friends died in a two-vehicle collision on the L3168 road, with one survivor and two others hospitalized, Gardaí continue forensic investigations.
- In Co Louth on Saturday, a crash on the L3168 near Gibstown killed five young people when their Volkswagen Golf collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser as they travelled to socialise in Dundalk.
- Named by Gardaí, the victims included Chloe McGee, 23, school teacher at Fiaich Institute of Further Education, Dundalk, who had recently secured a permanent post.
- Forensic teams from Garda examined the R3168 scene, and following assessment by State Pathologist Linda Mulligan, both vehicles were removed shortly after 6pm on Sunday to a secure location.
- A sixth male survivor is being treated in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, two occupants of the Toyota Land Cruiser were hospitalised, and family liaison officers have been appointed with national leaders expressing deep sadness.
