Legendary rock singer reveals at concert he’s going blind, deaf
- During a 5,000-strong audience show at the Royal Albert Hall on March 27, 2025, 81-year-old British singer and The Who's lead singer Roger Daltrey revealed he is going blind.
- Daltrey's revelation occurred during a limited run of shows for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a concert series he launched in 2000, from which he is stepping back as curator.
- Daltrey, wearing purple-tinted sunglasses, likened his situation to The Who's 1969 rock opera *Tommy*, while performing classics like "I Can't Explain" and "Baba O' Riley" with guitarist Pete Townshend, who is 79 and recently had a knee replacement.
- Daltrey stated, "The joys of getting old mean you go deaf, I also now have got the joy of going blind," but affirmed, "Fortunately I still have my voice, because that I'll have a full Tommy."
- Daltrey will remain an honorary patron, and Robert Smith of The Cure, who has previously supported the charity, will succeed him as curator for the 2026 concerts, continuing the legacy of the Teenage Cancer Trust's Royal Albert Hall series.
