Google Search Gets Smarter with the Launch of ‘AI Mode’ in India

Google has launched a new experimental AI feature in India that allows users to ask questions and receive answers through Search Labs, with the option to participate starting today in English.
This launch follows the initial US experiment and broad rollout after Google's I/O 2025 event, marking the first international expansion of AI Mode.
AI Mode is powered by an adapted iteration of Gemini 2.5 and employs a query fan-out approach to manage longer, more intricate questions while supporting multimodal input methods such as voice, text, and images.
Google explained that the feature enables users to pose follow-up questions, engage in more sophisticated reasoning, and access up-to-date information from resources such as the Knowledge Graph, allowing queries that previously would have needed multiple searches to be handled more efficiently.
While users appreciate AI Mode’s speed and response quality, early reports indicate Google's AI features have caused organic search traffic drops for publishers, highlighting ongoing challenges.
