Surging global demand for AI hardware kept Asia's factories humming in August, private surveys showed on Tuesday, brightening prospects for the export-reliant region even as the prolonged Middle East war fuels uncertainty and rising costs.
The demand for chips, computers and other equipment linked to artificial intelligence coincided with an expansion of manufacturing activity in China, Japan and South Korea in August, while Europe recorded its best performance in more than four years. The rebound coexists with higher costs and increasing uncertainty due to the war between the United States and Iran and the closure of the Strait of Ormuz.
