In what one expert describes as a strongly worded statement Thursday, G7 countries' financial chiefs meeting in Banff pledged a united effort to step up their support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
German finance minister optimistic that G7 can agree joint communique on Ukraine support
BANFF, Alberta - German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil on Thursday said he was optimistic that the Group of Seven advanced economies could agree a joint communique showing support for Ukraine, amid a rift between the U.S. and the rest of the G7 on the issue. Read more at straitstimes.com.
The G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting held in Banff, Canada, closed on Thursday (May 22) and issued a joint communiqué, which stated that the exchanges between the parties were fruitful and that a number of consensuses were reached.
Previously, it was reported that the U.S. was allegedly opposed to including further support for Ukraine in the G7 application.
