Free Europe has won a final case against MOL: the court ruled that the editorial article, which claimed that the Hungarian state could give MOL a “gift” of up to 100 billion per year through the waste concession, was not unlawful. According to the ruling, the paper drew conclusions about the system’s irregularities as an opinion, based on real facts.
MOL objected to our article about the waste concession contract, in which we wrote that the state could give the company a gift of one hundred billion forints every year. According to the oil company, we falsely portrayed it as “colluding with the state for corrupt purposes.” This led to a lawsuit.
