France ramps up pressure on EU to investigate Shein over sex dolls, weapons
- A man was arrested in France after authorities said a 56-year-old man allegedly bought a Shein childlike sex-doll, and the public prosecutor's office in Aix-en-Provence said searches of his home were carried out.
- On October 3, workers found the doll among parcels at a south-of-France warehouse, prompting France's consumer fraud agency DGCCRF to investigate listings on Shein's French website after an anonymous tip.
- Shein, according to Quentin Ruffat, said it will cooperate with the investigation, share vendor and buyer names, and has banned sex dolls since Nov 2, suspending third-party listings in France.
- The government has moved to suspend Shein by initiating a French government suspension procedure led by prime minister Sébastien Lecornu, while Economy Minister Roland Lescure warned the company could be banned despite its Nov 5 Paris store opening.
- Under the DSA, the European Commission can investigate Shein, and Jean-Noel Barrot said `I believe that the European Commission must take action. It cannot wait any longer`.
