Ford to Recall over 100,000 Mustangs for 2 Separate Issues
Ford Motor Company is recalling 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles because windshield wipers may malfunction in temperatures of zero degrees Celsius or less.
A wiper motor chip lacked proper programming, causing communication loss between the motor and steering column control module. Supplier Valeo and a sub-supplier's incorrect equipment setting created the defect.
Dealers will inspect and repair or replace affected components free of charge. To date, Ford has identified 35 warranty claims related to communication loss between the wiper motor and control module.
Separately, Ford issued a recall for 42,784 Mustang Mach-E models because the rear differential pinion shaft may fracture, causing loss of drive power or unintended vehicle movement.
These recalls add to Ford's broader quality-control challenges; the automaker has issued 53 recall campaigns this year covering more than 12 million vehicles, far outpacing Stellantis-owned Chrysler's 19 campaigns.
