Europol Disrupts Largest Synthetic Drug Network Across Six EU Countries

More than 85 suspects arrested and 24 labs dismantled in a year-long Europol operation targeting synthetic drug supply chains across six EU countries.

  • On Jan 21, Europol said it carried out its 'largest ever operation,' dismantling 24 labs and seizing around 1,000 tonnes of chemicals across Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.
  • Polish police first flagged the scheme in 2024 after noticing large legal chemical imports from China and India, later found repackaged and mislabelled for EU drug-manufacturing labs.
  • Authorities seized around 500,000 , 3.6 tons of drugs, 982 liters of liquid narcotics, and conducted 50 house searches in Poland, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands.
  • Europol's Andy Kraag described the operation as `a massive blow to organised crime groups involved in drug trafficking, specifically of synthetic drugs`, noting the criminals `don't have supplies anymore` and highlighting environmental damage from toxic waste dumping.
  • Police said other targets remain under investigation as Europol found seven legal companies in Poland facilitated imports, generating a 30-fold return on investment.
