Without additional climate policy, European carbon tax could cost Belgian households up to 600 euros per year
The new European carbon tax for fuel cars and heating could cost some Belgian households up to 600 euros per year. At least, if the Flemish and federal governments do not take additional measures that make it cheaper to insulate homes, install heat pumps, drive electric or take public transport. These measures could indeed significantly reduce the bill. This has been calculated by the Flemish Institute for Technological Research.
European carbon tax on fossil fuels costs Belgian families up to 650 euros per year
Without measures, the introduction of the new European carbon tax will cost Belgian families up to 650 euros extra per year in fuel and heating. Vulnerable families will be hit the hardest in proportion. The government is working on plans to limit the impact.
