EU leaders to be chief guests at Republic Day function
The 90-minute parade will feature 18 contingents, a European naval unit, and new military displays themed on 150 years of Vande Mataram, with 77,000 attendees expected.
- Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said EU leaders Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen will be chief guests at India's 77th Republic Day, with the parade themed around 150 years of 'Vande Mataram' on January 26.
- Officials said this year Republic Day Parade enclosures will be named after Indian rivers and Beating the Retreat ceremony enclosures after musical instruments to replace the confusing V1/V2 format.
- Several firsts will appear in the parade, including the Bhairav Battalion, Shaktibaan regiments, Drone Shakti, a universal rocket launcher, the European Union naval contingent and the Indian Army animal contingent with two Bactrian camels and four Zanskar ponies.
- Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions on key central Delhi roads from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm on January 17, 2026, and advised motorists to plan journeys and follow alternate routes as congestion is likely on surrounding roads and Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be closed during the period.
- From January 19 to 26, paintings by artist Tejendra Kumar Mitra illustrating 'Vande Mataram' will be displayed along Kartavya Path, and invitation cards will feature the sesquicentenary logo, officials said.

R-Day To Mark 150 Years Of Vande Mataram
Newly raised Indian Army light commando Bhairav battalions, specialised Shaktibaan artillery units and the Ladakh Scouts will march on Kartavya Path. A total of 18 marching contingents, along with a small European Union naval contingent, will take part in the parade.
