EchoStar to sell more spectrum licenses to SpaceX for $2.6 billion
EchoStar extends wireless spectrum sale to SpaceX with a $2.6 billion stock deal after regulatory clearance and a $23 billion sale to AT&T, ending government probe.
- On Nov. 6, 2025, EchoStar Corporation agreed to sell unpaired AWS-3 licenses to SpaceX for about $2.6 billion in stock, extending a $17 billion package from September.
- After a U.S. government investigation into alleged hoarding of licences, EchoStar Corporation began selling spectrum, including a $23 billion sale to AT&T Inc. that ended its mobile carrier bid.
- EchoStar said the sale covers 15 megahertz of AWS-3 spectrum and, with AWS-4 and H-block licenses, accelerates Starlink Direct to Cell development, said Hamid Akhavan.
- Closing will occur after regulatory approvals, EchoStar said current DISH TV, Sling TV, Boost Mobile and Hughes operations will remain unaffected, and Charlie Ergen assumes operating responsibility.
- Since first activating service earlier this year, more than 8M people have relied on Starlink Direct to Cell, while EchoStar's deal envisions up to 15,000 upgraded satellites and SpaceX arranged about $2 billion in interim financing.
