DUP Announces Independent Review Into Fresh Claims Involving Jeffrey Donaldson
The party said the review will examine fresh allegations and whether senior figures knew of misconduct before his arrest.
On Monday, a jury at Newry Crown Court unanimously found former Democratic Unionist Party leader Jeffrey Donaldson guilty of 18 sexual offences, including one count of rape, against two women when they were children.
Investigations reveal Donaldson led a 'double life,' visiting a London sauna marketed to gay men in 2006, the same year he publicly described homosexuality as 'sinful.'
Former DUP MP Ian Paisley said a woman approached him five years ago claiming Donaldson 'exploited' her; unionist commentator Jamie Bryson claimed he executed policy work for the former leader.
Responding to the conviction, DUP leader Gavin Robinson denied prior knowledge of criminal behaviour and announced a 'specialised and detailed independent review' into issues arising from the conviction.
The BBC One Northern Ireland documentary 'Politician, Predator & Paedophile' aired on Friday, examining the conduct of the disgraced former politician and the revelations surrounding his conviction.
