28 killed in a drone strike on a market in Sudan’s West Kordofan, rights group says
Emergency Lawyers said the market served thousands of civilians, while witnesses blamed the military for a two-stage strike.
A drone strike on a crowded market in Ghubaysh, West Kordofan, killed 28 people and wounded 23, with the Emergency Lawyers group blaming Sudan's army for the attack.
The Sudanese army denied targeting civilians, claiming its drone destroyed Rapid Support Forces vehicles near the market without harming civilians.
Sudan's conflict since April 2023 has killed over 59,000 people and displaced around 13 million, involving fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
Drone warfare has caused a sharp increase in civilian casualties during the conflict, with both sides extensively using drones supplied by foreign countries.
About 30 civilians have been killed and several dozen injured in an attack on a market in Ghabesh town in Western Kordofan State (south), according to a civil organization, in the midst of the war that broke out in April 2023 between the Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).Continue reading....
