A White House official revealed that Trump mentioned Jimmy Lai, founder of Hong Kong's Next Media, during the meeting and called for Lai's release. Veteran media personality Akio Yaita commented that Trump's willingness to speak out for an imprisoned Hong Kong media figure during a high-level meeting was truly remarkable.
