According to the carrier Air France-KLM, partner of Delta Air Lines, this new service "has strengthened the growing importance of the Portuguese market for the United States and vice-versa".

"The Delta Air Lines will launch its first daily direct flight from Port to New York-JFK from May 21, 2026, connecting the two vibrant coastal cities on the two sides of the Atlantic," he pointed out in a communication, pointing out that the new link joins "the two annual direct routes from Lisbon to New York-JFK and Boston and is part of the largest transatlantic expansion of the Delta".
