Spurs Rule De'Aaron Fox Out of Game 1 with Ankle Soreness
Jalen Williams is set to return from a hamstring strain, while De'Aaron Fox and Luke Kornet are questionable with soreness.
On Monday, the San Antonio Spurs ruled star guard De'Aaron Fox out for Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the OKC Thunder due to right ankle soreness, while the Thunder activated Jalen Williams from a six-game absence.
Fox sustained the ankle injury against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round and briefly exited Game 6 before returning to help the Spurs clinch their series victory.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson noted the injury "is not going away," forcing San Antonio to pivot; rookie guard Dylan Harper is expected to start in the backcourt replacing Fox's playmaking.
Conversely, the OKC Thunder welcomed back Jalen Williams after he missed six games with a left hamstring strain, providing depth for a team that went 27-8 when he played this season.
Victor Wembanyama, Spurs All-Star big man, now carries an increased offensive burden as San Antonio attempts to overcome the loss of their primary playmaker against the top-seeded OKC squad.
