Glacier Debris Blocks River: Freshly Formed Lake Should Overflow Within Hours

In the Swiss Lötschental once again threatens the danger after the glacier descent: Due to the falling ice and rock, the water of a river rises to a lake. The rubble cone should not be able to hold the water masses for long. How bad the consequences will be is not yet foreseeable.

The lake, formed by the demolition material of the Birch glacier and the debris masses of the Little Nesthorn, has risen almost to the upper edge of the rubble cone and is likely to overflow during the day.
