- The coastguard said it ordered the migrant dinghy to turn back during a pursuit, and an unnamed coastguard official reported the boat manoeuvred toward the patrol vessel before the collision.
- Fourteen bodies were recovered, officials said, including 11 men and three women, while about 25 rescued migrants, including about 11 children, were taken to Chios hospital and witnesses estimated 30-35 people were onboard.
- Chios hospital staff were placed on alert as Michalis Giannakos, head of Greece's public hospital workers' union, said several injured individuals required surgery.
- Amid scrutiny over pushbacks, the European Union border agency reviewed alleged violations by Greece last year, while UNHCR reported roughly 1,000 crossings this year and IOM estimated about 33,000 Mediterranean deaths since 2014.
