Cold case cracked: Maine authorities make arrest in 1984 murder
Maine authorities arrested Raymond Brown, 65, in Bangor on May 1, 2025, for the 1984 murder of Linda Maxwell.
The arrest followed an extensive and expanded investigation into Maxwell's disappearance and murder more than 40 years ago.
Maxwell, 18, was last reported in Calais on August 23, 1984, following time spent with friends, and her body was discovered two days later in Robbinston.
The Washington County grand jury indicted Brown for murder, and police said he will be held without bail at the Washington County Jail.
The Maine State Police encourage anyone with information to contact their offices as the investigation proceeds with Brown in custody.
