The January big freeze led to Sweden not just noting the coldest temperature of the season, but the coldest of the century.

The temperature in Vittangi on January 5th dropped by 44.6 degrees. SMHI has now announced this.

On January 5, the lowest temperature recorded in Sweden so far this century was measured - 44.6 degrees below zero in Vittangi, Lapland, according to SMHI.

Meteorologists have recorded -44.6°C in northern Sweden, which is the lowest temperature in the country in the 21st century.
