Beach hazards statement issued for Northern Michigan for Saturday and Sunday

At 2:31 p.m. EDT on Friday, the National Weather Service released a beach hazards statement valid from Saturday 8 a.m. EDT until Sunday 8 p.m. EDT for Leelanau, Benzie, Manistee, Mackinac and Charlevoix counties."Dangerous swimming conditions are expected due to high waves of 3 to 6 feet and rip currents," states the weather service. "Regardless of swim risk, hypothermia is possible due to very cold water temperatures."
