Apple’s Siri AI Is Free, Until You Actually Start Using It
Tim Cook said Apple could let heavy users buy higher iCloud+ limits as it prepares Siri AI and manages costly cloud model requests.
On Thursday, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that Apple may introduce paid subscription tiers for users who utilize Apple Intelligence and Siri features heavily.
Apple relies on a hybrid AI approach, running many tasks on-device to reduce costs, while peers like Alphabet and Meta committed over $100 billion in capital expenditures this year.
Cook noted, "We will have some kind of upgrade possibilities on iCloud Plus where people can buy up the stack," as Apple Home features already restrict access to the $9.99 plan.
While Apple lacks a "complete plan" for charging users, the company intends to use AI as a selling point for iCloud subscriptions and will cap usage on cloud models.
The company prepares to launch Siri this fall, and the success of this monetization model will depend on public adoption of the updated personal assistant.
