Apple to revamp Siri as a built-in chatbot, Bloomberg News reports
- On January 21, 2026, Apple plans to replace Siri with a chatbot codenamed Campos embedded in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, unveiling it at WWDC in June and releasing in September.
- Facing internal debates about chatbot development, Apple initially resisted chatbot interfaces but reversed course as Craig Federighi said last year, `This wasn't about just building a chatbot`.
- Apple has been testing chatbot-like assistants internally, with Enchanté rolling out to employees in November 2025 and running Foundation Models, Anthropic's Claude and Google's Gemini for tasks and file analysis.
- Capabilities will include web search, image generation and file analysis, with integration into Photos, Mail, Music, TV and Xcode enabling voice-first interactions and use of personal device data.
- Ahead of the full iOS 27 launch, Apple will ship an interim iOS 26.4 update this spring that includes a Siri upgrade while debating privacy limits on memory and Google cloud use.
